Catholic Herald, UK

Francis Phillips, in-house contributor and book reviewer, shares her appreciation for It’s Good to Be Here in this article: “This is no ordinary autobiographical memoir, though Christina’s personal story is interwoven in her narrative. It is a work of true spirituality, mystical in places, in which passages from Scripture, particularly the Gospels, are combined with short excerpts from Christina’s blog posts, designed to make the reader see the creation of human life as nothing less than God’s supreme gift of love, personified in Christ.”

Independent Catholic News

Maurice Billingsley, contributor and long time L’Arche volunteer, writes: “Christina weaves autobiography and a profound incarnational theology with a love of language and clarity of expression.…This is not a book to buy out of pity for a ‘poor, disabled woman’, but for its deep insights into the divine light that wills to brighten our days. All our days.”

Thinking from Hope

Jennifer Lindberg, author and award-winning journalist, writes about It’s Good to Be Here in a beautiful and thought-provoking post on her blog. “In an age of body-shaming and body image problems, God directs my gaze to the Cross and Chase…She is not ashamed of her disabled body after being born with spinal muscular atrophy. Chase can’t hide her body and she doesn’t want to, embracing all its imperfections. I doubt the majority of us could say the same.”

“The Book We Need”

Kathryn Anne Casey, author of Journey in Love and Peace in Pregnancy

“As a mother of a child with a chronic medical condition, I found Christina Chase’s vibrant, clear and poetic reflections on the incarnation, death and resurrection of Christ through the lens of her life, living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, to be an invaluable resource of reflection and hope. She stands as a witness not only for the joy and value of those whose lives are limited in some capacity, but offers us a drink from the wellspring of her wisdom after she searched for answers we all must ask if we are to live life to the fullness: why am I here? What value is my life? If God is good, why is life so difficult? I am deeply grateful for this book and find myself returning to the thoughts contained in it again and again.”

Casey also wrote an article for AcceptingTheGift.org about her deeply personal and poignant journey of suffering, faith, grief, and trust while reading It’s Good to Be Here.

The Culture of Death must contend with Christina’s powerful voice for the voiceless. Her life is so fragile, and as she puts it, so “small” but she appreciates totally the gift of being alive. How many of us can say that?

Erin Broest, author of God Made the Moonlight

Chase drew me into sharing her reflections, not just observing them. Each chapter provoked thought as well as prayer. As I pondered her words, I felt as though I were with a down-to-earth mystic filled with warm good humor (though not flippancy).

“Faith and Wonder Amid Littleness”

Ellen Kolb, pro-life activist and nature lover

“A literary praise song”

Meggie K. Daly, author of Bead by Bead: Praying the Scriptural Rosary

What a treasure of a book! The author’s reflections on the life of Christ, especially his Incarnation and Passion, are illuminating and awe-inspiring. The author honestly shares her journey to accept and celebrate the person that God created her to be, body and soul, through the lens of her Christian faith. Many sections of the book I read, re-read, and read yet again as her writing is so beautiful, and her insights are often unique.

One of my daughters has already purchased the book upon my recommendation, and I plan to buy additional copies for gifts for friends and family.
